Senior Support Worker

Overley Hall are looking to recruit at Wellingtonia Children’s Home.

Wellingtonia Children’s Home is a family run, Independent Children’s Home for children aged 8 to 19 many of whom are educated onsite, at Overley Hall School. We provide residential care for children with complex needs associated with learning difficulties, autism, communication, social conditions and other diagnoses. Many of our pupils have additional needs linked to symptoms of attachment and trauma. Our approach is a very high standard of compassionate, person-centred, therapeutic care to nurture and support each individual to fulfil their personal potential and to thrive in their lives.

Hours: 79.5 hour fortnight with alternate weekends

This role is open to individuals who hold a Level 3/4 Diploma in children and young people (or equivalent) and have a worked with children and young people for a minimum of 2 years and want to continue to develop their career journey with a hugely respected children’s home. You will support the Care Management team in providing the best quality childcare in a safe and care focused environment for the young people. When working, you will have responsibilities for:

• Monitoring care plans
• Supervision of staff, including development targets.
• Overseeing activities for young people which leads to progression and independent skills.
• Ensuring the daily calendar is adhered to
• Nurturing and guidance of colleagues whilst ensuring the welfare and care of the young people.
• Liaising with parents and professionals
• Medication responsibilities including reviews (which may be outside of your shift pattern)
• Safeguarding, child protection which will involve report writing

About Overley Hall

Overley Hall was established in 1980 by co-principals/husband and wife, Anita and Paul Brown; both from special education teaching backgrounds. They purchased the main building from the RNIB who ran a ‘Sunshine Home’ for children with visual impairments there from 1950 to 1979. The independent school/home was established to provide a specialised, residential learning and living environment for children and young people who have a range of complex needs in a peaceful rural setting. Over 40 years on and Overley Hall remains a family run company. Overley Hall Ltd. now comprises of Overley Hall School, Wellingtonia Children’s home, the Lodge and Woodlands – Adult Care Services. The service users at Overley Hall have a wide range of complex needs specifically linked to autism and learning difficulties.
